Records: Kathleen (0-6), Bartow N/A

Highlights:

Kathleen battled to score two runs with no outs in the 6th. There was a controversial call on a sacrifice fly by Ramos that resulted in two outs and no new run on the board instead of what KHS thought should have been 1 out and 1 new run. After the call, KHS flew out to end the inning and was unable to hold off the momentum BHS had.

Records: Kathleen (1-6), Haines City N/A

Highlights:

Kathleen recorded their first win of the year by finally putting everything together in one game. Tyler Shinabarker pitched a strong 5 1/3 innings allowing only 2 runs while striking out 5 and only walking 2. Troy Owens closed the door on the game with an equally impressive outing going 1 2/3 innings striking out 2.

Offensively, KHS batted around in the 3rd scoring 4 aided by some nice base running. Jerry Burnett added to the lead in the 4th with a nice single to right field knocking in 2 more runs.

Haines City held the lead briefly in the 3rd inning scoring 2, before KHS came to bat and put a 4 spot on the board. They were held scoreless after that until the 7th when an attempted comeback was shut down with only 1 run coming across the plate.

Highlights:

The game-plan set up by Kathleen Coaching Staff did not work out. Coach Holmes said, “ If we throw strikes and make plays in the first two innings, we win. They did not hit any of our pitchers well, but they won because of our walks and errors. Carter and especially Shinabarker did well in throwing strikes and keeping the Spartans for scoring earned runs. Records: Kathleen (4-16), Haines City (n/a)

Highlights:

Today’s game plan did not go as planned with Oneal only pitching one inning. Owens was effective for three innings and cut down his walks. Owens left the game as the pitcher of record as the offense had found a way to jump to the lead after being down 4 after the first inning. Shinabarker was unable to hold the three run lead, but after a bad inning on defense his catcher Ramos hit a home run to kill Hornet momentum. Kathleen followed their senior with three more runs after Ramos’s leadoff homerun. In the top of the 7th, KHS came to life again with three runs and then Shinabarker earned his third win of the season! Shinabarker (3-6) and J. Burnett (2-4) also had extra base hits, a double each. Other offensive stars were Owens (2-2) with 3 walks along with Baldwin (2-4, 2SB, 2RBI) and Oneal (3-5, 3SB, RBI). KHS will host Mulberry on Tuesday for their Senior Night!

M: Russell and Carroll

Leading Hitters:

K: Oneal (1-3, R, HR, RBI), Burgess (1-1), Gardner (1-2, RBI), Camargo (1-3, SB, 2B)
M: Wiggs (1-2, R, SAC, BB, 3B), Willis (2-4, R, HR, 4RBI)

Records: Kathleen (4-17), Mulberry N/A

Highlights:

Senior Night did not go as the Red Devils had planned. Oneal tied up the score in the bottom of the first with a leadoff homerun. Kathleen then capitalized on a walk and an error to score to more runs. Russell kept Kathleen off balance the rest of the game as they did not make the adjustments to this style of pitching. Juniors Owens and Oneal did well for Kathleen pitching.

Highlights:
George Jenkins had a very effective hitting attack. Owens threw strikes and got ahead of hitters, but was unable to put the Eagle hitters away. They were able to get the bat on the ball and find the holes. Owens pitched his best game of the year, but the scoreboard will not show that. The Kathleen hitters never stopped in their effort. Morgan got the first run on the board by reaching on a bunt single in the 4th. They were persistent in the 5th as well, and had 3 runners on when the last out was recorded.

Records: Kathleen (4-19), Lakeland N/A

Highlights:
Kathleen looked to spoil Lakeland’s senior night as the two teams faced off at Henley Field. They took an early lead in the 2nd with a couple of clutch two out hits. The first one a double from Miguel Ramos, that tied the game at 2, and then a single up the middle from Montrell O’neal that gave KHS a 4-2 advantage. Lakeland’s Yordy Cabrera then took the game over in the 3rd, hitting a HR in each of his next two at-bats. The first was of the inside the park variety, and the second a more conventional shot over the left field fence. Both were 3 run shots and after the 4th Lakeland lead 11-4. KHS continued to fight adding three more runs, but the Dreadnaughts do the same and the final score ends up 14-7.

T: Bailey (1-2, R), Kader (1-3, RBI), Dowd (1-2, BB, HP)

Records: Kathleen (4-20), Tenoroc (6-18)

Highlights:

Kathleen and Teneroc had a close, hard fought, pitching duel in the first district game held at Bartow High School. Eric Bailey went the distance for Teneroc , throwing 7 innings with 8 strike outs and allowing only 2 runs on five hits. The two runs came in the 5th as Michael Morgan lead off with a nice infield bunt hit and Gardner Sealy followed with a walk. A wild pitch and a dropped third strike allowed them to both come in to score. That was the only offense the Red Devils could muster.

Montrell O’neal pitched 6 strong innings only allowing 3 runs, but his erratic pitching lead to 7 walks and they finally jumped up to get him in the 6th inning. O’Neal walked the first two hitters and then a single from Bailey loaded the bases with no outs. KHS almost got out of the inning unscathed, but a wild pitch and error at first base tied the game and then gave Tenoroc a 3-2 lead going into the 7th. Bailey then closed out the seventh with three quick outs.
